frequently asked questions
I saw a picture of something on social media, and I want to buy it, but I can't find it in your shop. How can I buy it? Poema garments are handmade and one-of-a-kind. In this way, shopping for poema is akin to shopping for original works of art in a gallery. If something is no longer live in the shop, then it has already sold and is unavailable; however, designs and concepts do repeat, so something similar is likely to be available soon. Keep an eye on the shop!
Who makes the clothes? Hannah makes the clothes! Each item of poema clothing has been designed, drafted, cut, sewn and finished by her two hands.
When are new items listed? New garments are listed every Thursday at exactly 2pm Eastern Standard Time. We recommend joining the poema mailing list so you can be notified when new items are in the shop. Things tend to sell quickly in the first few hours.
Will you make me a custom item? Poema does not take custom orders.
Will you re-make a previously sold item, but make it for me in a different size/color/length/etc? We buy fabric in very small batches, and once it's used up, it often can't be purchased again. Please don't ask for a previously made item customized to your size or length preference. The poema business model is not designed to handle custom orders, and the answer will always be no.
Will you re-make an exact copy of a previously sold item for me? Everything is handmade and one-of-a-kind. Please don't ask for a copy of a previously made item. The poema business model is not designed to handle custom orders, and the answer will always be no.
Will you reserve an item in the shop for me, so that no-one else will buy it before I'm ready? We are unable to reserve items in the poema shop. It is our policy that when a garment is for sale in the shop, it is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
I see picture of something I like in the gallery of previously sold items. Are you going to make something like it again? Probably! There are certain staples that re-appear frequently, though they might use slightly different fabrics. Basic tops in basic colors, and signature skirts in solid colors are recurring items in the poema shop. Unfortunately we can't predict what fabrics we will find, or what Hannah will feel like sewing each week. Hannah is frequently asked "will you be making ______ again soon?" and the answer is always, "I don't know!" The best way to find out what's coming to the shop is to sign up for the poema mailing list.
Will you alter a poema item for me? The poema shop does not perform alterations or tailoring, but customers have had success with their local tailors when a slightly different fit or length has been desired.
What if it doesn't fit? You can return it! (Please read the return policy before ordering. There is a 15% re-stocking fee on all returns.) HOWEVER, poema clothing is very size-versatile. If you familiarize yourself with the poema sizing info and check our extremely careful measurements against your own, you are highly likely to be pleased with the fit of your garment.
What if I want to return it? We request that you send it back within a week of receipt. There is a 15% re-stocking fee for all returns, and we can't refund shipping costs. Please read our full return policies.
How should I clean my poema garment? Dry cleaning is highly recommended so as not to risk harming your garment. If your garment is pure silk, you can wash it at your own risk (gently in cold water), but you will have to iron it carefully to return the silk to its original luster. If your silk is printed, washing it in water may cause slight fading. Most poema tops can be washed gently in cold water and laid flat to dry. Skirts and dresses with mixed fabrics (knits & silks sewn together) should definitely be dry cleaned. If you are unsure about how to care for a particular item, don't hesitate to send us a message. Handled with care, poema clothing will last for hundreds of milongas!
Do you ever have sales? Occasionally! And they are usually only announced to the poema mailing list.
I see something in the shop that I like. What size is it? The measurements and description of each item are posted next to the photos in the listing.
How can I tell if something will fit me? For more information, check the sizing page.
Do you ever make clothes for plus sizes? Sometimes! There is usually a handful of large and medium/large items in the shop, but if you are a plus sized tanguera and it looks like those won't cut it, please send us a message. Extra large and xxl have not sold swiftly in the past, but if the demand arises, we will be happy to meet it.
Do you ship internationally? Yes! The shipping policies are outlined on the shipping page.
What kind of undergarments go best with poema? We find the raw-cut thong by Commando to be the perfect invisible underwear beneath poema skirts. Free People makes a huge variety of soft bras ideal for tango, and we're particular fans of their galloon lace hatler bra, which comes in over 20 colors and perfectly compliments (i.e. disappears beneath) the poema signature halter.
Do your skirt length measurements include the waistband? Yes! Skirts are measured from the top of the waistband to the hem. For dresses, we measure the skirt portion, which is from the bottom of the bodice to the hem.
